Self-efficacy in relation to adherence to healthy behaviours among pregnant women: a concept analysis

Aim: This study aims to provide an understanding of the concept self-efficacy in its implications promoting adherence to healthy behaviours among pregnant women. Design: Concept analysis guided by Wilson 1963 framework. Methods: An electronic search literature published from 2009–2019 was conducted using following databases: CINAHL, PubMed, ERIC, PsycINFO, and Google Scholar. After in-depth review literature, data were analysed, findings synthesized. Results: It found that is a multidimensional, dynamic, contextual shaped according woman’s previous experiences, gained knowledge, presence family empowerment, professional support, emotional status. Self-efficacy influences cognitive process taking quality decision-making, setting practical goals, having plan overcome barriers challenges. Conclusion: essential predictor recommended behaviours; hence, it should be part any prenatal health promotion interventions.
